El Salvador has beaches all along the west coast which is more developed than the East Coast. The East Coast is known as “the wild east”. A few beaches are Playa Zunte, Playa El Tunco, playa Las Flores, and many others. La Playa del Tunco is famous for its surfing destination, the beach is made up of dark sand and big rocks. The most famous wave on the beach is La Bocana, a left wave that can reach ten feet high. The beach isn't meant for swimming because of its massive waves. Unlike other beaches, Playa El Tunco has more black volcanic rocks and pebbles than soft sand. The ocean stays warm year-round because of the tropical climates and during the low tides, tourists and locals can explore caves that are under the water. The beach has also hosted many surfing competitions because of its massive waves. El Tunco is very unstable for swimmers and even surfers.
